How Delaware treats self-employment deductions

  • Half of self-employment tax: deductible. Delaware starts from federal AGI, which already reflects the deductible half of SE tax.
  • Self-employed health insurance: deductible. Inherited through federal AGI.
  • SEP-IRA / solo 401(k) contributions: deductible. SEP-IRA and solo 401(k) contributions deducted in federal AGI carry through.

How the calculator handles Delaware

  • Rates, standard deduction and $110 personal credits are from the Division of Revenue's 2026 PIT-EST instructions (revised 11/10/25); Delaware amounts are statutory, not indexed.
  • Proposals to add higher brackets above $125,000-$150,000 (HB 13 and its substitutes) were not enacted for 2026 as of verification.
  • The same rate table applies to every filing status. Married couples may file 'combined separate' (status 4), applying the table to each spouse's income separately, which often lowers tax; the calculator applies the table to joint income.
  • Additional $2,500 standard deduction for age 65+/blind, $110 credits for dependents and age 60+, pension exclusions, itemized deductions and other credits are not modeled.

Local income taxes in Delaware

The City of Wilmington levies an earned income (wage and net profits) tax on residents and on nonresidents working in the city. No other Delaware locality taxes income. Not modeled.
